Cape Town/Clanwilliam Cedarberg Mountains

Day 1:
Table Mountain

On arrival at Cape Town International Airport, you will be met by a Cut Above Travel and Tours representative to be escorted to an awaiting vehicle.

From here you will be transferred to the City of Cape Town, also know as the “Fairest Cape” and the “Mother City”. Few places in the world can boast a more spectacular setting than the “Mother City”, which is cradled in a vast blue-grey amphitheater formed by Table Mountain, Lions Head in the West and Devils Peak in the East.

Check in at Hotel or District Six Guesthouse named after district six where the first forced removals took place. Originally established as a mixed community of freed slaves, merchants, artisans, labourers and immigrants, District Six was a vibrant centre with close links to the city and the port until it was declared a “white area” under the new “Apartheid”law of the Government.

Be ready for dinner and be welcomed to Cape Town by a Cut Above Travel and Tours.

Day 2: Cape Town

Cederberg Rock Paintings After breakfast check out at the Guest House and proceed to a shop called Union Mart for the purchase of your gas canisters before continuing the journey to Clanwilliam and Cederberg.

Depart Cape Town on the N1 and onto the N7 before reaching our first destination, Clanwilliam, and surroundings are the hub of the rooibos (red bush) tea industry.

Arrive at Clanwilliam Lodge in time for a light lunch. Here you will be introduced to a member of Cape Nature and two professional hiking guides who will take you on your first hiking adventure in the Cederberg.

After you have left the rest of your belongings with your teachers at the Lodge you once again depart with your backpack including your hiking and camping necessities to Cederberg Mountains approximately 30km from Clanwilliam.The Cederberg is beloved by connoisseurs of mountaineering and hiking for its serene beauty, the panoramic views that unfold from isolated peaks, galleries of San (Bushman) rock art, fascinating and often bizarre rock formations artfully fashioned by erosion over many centuries, and for its rich flora

The Cape Floristic Kingdom, of which Cederberg region is part, is home to 9000 indigenous plants. Many of these plant species do not occur anywhere else in the world. It is of international importance that these species are sustainable utilised.

At this point at Cederberg you will say your goodbyes to your teachers and will continue with your two hiking guides on your hiking expedition filled with the anxiety and excitement of discovering a new world. The teachers and the representative of Cut Above Travel will return to Clanwilliam Lodge where they will stay until you will be collected once you completed your hiking expedition.

Day 3: Clanwilliam/Cederberg

Cederberg Hiking

Each morning you will follow the instructions of the hiking guide and continue your hike through the beautiful Cederberg area- Biodiversity incorporate all the building blocks of nature such as plants, animals, soil, rocks, mountains, rivers and wetlands. Camp fire dinner under the stars.

Day 4: Clanwilliam/Cederberg

Cederberg Landscape

Another day ahead filled with adventure learning all about this incredible Cederberg area. The name is derived from the remaining specimens of Clanwillam Cedars- Widdringtonia cederbergensis – which are not in fact cedars at all but species of cypress indigenous to South Africa. Centuries ago these trees flourished at a height of 1000 to 1400m above sea level and many grew to an age of 1000 years and more. Be captivated by the stories of these amazing trees and the various plant species from your guide.

Day 5: Cederberg/Cape Town

Early morning breakfast and depart with you professional hiking guide to continue your hike. Experience nature at its best, walking through or pass rivers and capturing the natural spring pools along the way. The coach will collect you late afternoon at the same point you were dropped off when you started. Say your farewells and thank the guides before returning to Cape Town. Dinner will be had at the guesthouse or hotel.

Day 6: Cape Town

Cape of Good Hope Nature Reserve

After breakfast we depart for a full day Peninsula Tour. The Fairest Cape can be seen in all its essence with the amazing beauty of landscapes, oceans and Mountains. Experience a visit to the “End of the Earth” to Cape Point through the Cape of Good Hope Nature reserve. Lunch is to be had en route, whilst a visit to the penguins is a must before finding your way back to the guest house.

Day 7: Cape Town

Today after breakfast you will be transferred to a social development project of your choice where you can participate in some volunteer work and interact with the local community. The afternoon you will be transferred to the Majestic Table Mountain (weather permitting).Lunch is for your own account. You will go for a short visit to the Victoria and Alfred Waterfront before returning to Hillcrest Guest House or Similar.

Day 8: Cape Town

After a sumptuous breakfast you will once more depart to your project of choice where you will continue your volunteer work.. Either you will continue and finish off the previous day work or you will start with something new, so prepare yourself with another exciting day.

Day 9: Cape Town

Abalimi Vegetable Project, Guguletu

After breakfast you will depart to Abalimi vegetable garden project in Guguletu. Your gardening tools will be provided for you but you need to bring along gardening gloves and refreshments. Enjoy a day in the lives of a struggling community that has developed their strength by providing a sustainable income by providing vegetables to their community at low cost.

Once you have completed your volunteer work and enjoyed an interesting day with the workers, you will depart for Lunch.

After another adventurous day return to the hotel.


Day 10: Cape Town

Depart after an early breakfast to the Nelson Mandela Gateway at the Clock Tower on the Victoria and Alfred Waterfront Here you will depart with a boat to Robben Island where you will visit an area that changed the lives of people forever, but also experience the triumph of a nation at large. Learn more about South Africa’s amazing legend, icon, leader and father of a nation, Rolihlahla Nelson Mandela. The tour takes three and half hours.

Return to the Clock Tower at 1230. Spend some time having lunch at the many fast food kiosks before returning to the Guesthouse to collect your luggage.

Check out and be transferred to Cape Town International airport.
